Position Summary: Responsible for supporting the mission of the hospital which is to provide accessible, cost effective, quality care to the citizens of Golden Plains Community Hospital from infancy through geriatrics.  The Clinical Pathologist provides the department with the expertise and guidance for quality patient care by providing Technical Supervision either directly or through delegation of responsibilities to the laboratory manager, in all areas of the Clinical Laboratory. Makes recommendations for equipment and staffing as warranted by changing test methodologies and workloads. Interacts with the medical staff and represents the department.  Promotes teamwork with physicians, personnel, and other departments.  Utilizes knowledge of standards, policies and procedures as outlined for the hospital and CLIA.  Identifies and provides education and training for staff to meet the special needs of the department’s patients. Delegates responsibilities to the Laboratory Manager as necessary to insure quality patient testing outcomes.
Position Qualifications:
  •  Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science.
  •  Certification: MT, (ASCP)
  •  Must be able to provide direct and supervised laboratory patient care.
  •  Must have experience with CLIA
  •  Demonstrates the ability to perform the technical skills and critical thinking according to     
  •  standards of care and practice.
  •  Demonstrates leadership, teaching and management skills.
  •  Must be familiar with the standards of care regarding the department.
  •  Five years clinical experience with a minimum of three years management/supervisory  
  •  experience in a hospital based laboratory department, preferred.
