Golden Plains Community Hospital is currently seeking a Patient Account Representative to work in our Business Office.  The PAR assists patients and caregivers in making financial arrangements for patient care. Tracks collection efforts. Performs as a cashier, customer service, and file clerk. Starting rate is $13.49 without experience. 

Position Qualifications:

1. High School graduate or equivalent, preferred.
2. Willing to obtain CRCS with AAHAM within the two years of employment, preferred.
3. Heartsaver is required on the first day of employment.
4. Typing and computer skills required.
5. Ability to communicate; bilingual a plus.
6. Optimum degree of responsibility for confidentiality.
7. Willingness and ability to assume additional responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Patient Registration: Greet patients, complete admission paperwork, and enter accurate demographic and contact data into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
2. Insurance Verification: Verify active insurance eligibility, check benefits, and secure necessary prior authorizations or referrals before or during the visit.
3. Financial Counseling: Explain co-pays, deductibles, and estimated out-of-pocket costs to patients. Set up structured payment plans or screen for financial assistance programs.
4. Cash Handling: Collect co-pays, deductibles, or past-due balances at the time of service, write receipts, and reconcile daily cash drawers.
5. Billing & Claims: Submit insurance claims, verify coverage, and process payments or refunds.
6. Collections & Accounts Receivable (A/R): Follow up on unpaid claims, handle denied or underpaid accounts, and track overdue balances.
7. Patient Communication: Answer billing questions, explain insurance benefits, and set up manageable payment plans.
8. Account Resolution: Investigate billing errors, update chart information, and resolve account discrepancies with insurance providers.
